What We Do

What We Do

Bird/Nest Aversion w. Wildlife Service Canines

At Canis, we understand the vital role nesting birds play in local and global ecology, and are devoted to their preservation and protection. We also understand the financial and logistical burden that nesting season can inflict on projects. With this in mind, we’ve developed a nest aversion program with our wildlife service canines.

Our dogs are trained to monitor a variety of terrain and mimic the presence of a predator, which deters habitation. The birds simply choose to nest in an area where they feel safer. Not only does this prevent birds from being impacted negatively by industrial activity, it helps you avoid costly buffers and restrictions. Using a disciplined canine in this application also assists in gathering vital wildlife information that may otherwise go overlooked by human eyes and ears.

Let us assist your environmental team to mitigate wildlife conflict BEFORE it happens, to the benefit of all.

Predator Aversion w. Wildlife Service Canines

In the same way a wildlife service canine’s presence can deter nesting birds, it can also discourage predator activity such as bear denning. Unintentionally, some industrial activity such as piling soil, brush and other materials can create ideal denning habitat for bears and other animals. Additionally, these predators can be attracted to the garbage and food on industrial sites where they can impede future work, and put workers and themselves at risk.

Many large predators, like bears, will actively avoid contact with other potentially aggressive or dangerous animals, and so the targeted presence of the dogs encourages them to use other areas, away from your project!

Predator Hazing and Conditioning w. Wildlife Service Canines

While predator aversion with our wildlife service canines can prevent conflict before it occurs, we understand that things still happen. In these instances, our team and their experience becomes invaluable. Our dogs have the discipline and knowledge to monitor your site for predators, and prevent them from engaging with workers or creating hazards and issues. Our wildlife experts have dealt extensively with predator conflict, and have the confidence and hands on skill to identify wildlife hazards, create solutions, and actively keep your crew and site secure. The unexpected happens, and our team of experts can offer the assurance that wildlife conflict won’t be just another issue.
