It’s important for the Canis team to be ambassadors for the Wildlife Service Dog industry. Therefore our our dogs are trained to be personable and disciplined in all industrial settings; ROW’s, mines, parks, camps, and more. Our dogs are required to have the drive to put in a full days work in any conditions, and the discipline to conduct themselves respectfully. These dogs are exposed and accustomed to camps, hotels, vehicles, machinery, utv’s, livestock, crowds, and much more. Most importantly, our dogs love to work. They are trained with positive reinforcement and are genuinely passionate about their jobs. We carefully assess each dog and allow them to grow and specialize in areas where they truly shine. We don’t set our dogs up for failure by putting them in positions where they don’t excel, which is why we hand pick every dog for every project based on a variety of traits and experience. Our team brings an infectious enthusiasm to every site, along with a wealth of skill.

Along with a winning personality, Leroy brings a variety of professional experience to the table. Specializing in wildlife nosework, bird and predator surveys and aversion, and predator hazing, Leroy is an asset to any team and has experience all over western Canada in a variety of settings. Leroy’s breed predisposes him to passive and active bird work, and his high energy, desire to please and discipline also makes him ideal for predator work. Whether he is conducting proactive bird aversion in a high risk area for nesting, or assisting teams with Bear sweeps or Coyote hazing, Leroy is comfortable and capable in all settings (as long as he gets to have the occasional visit with his coworkers).
This boy just loves to work, and is an asset to any project.

Tony is the dog who started it all at Canis. It’s Tony’s intelligence and capability that inspired us to branch out and introduce canine skillsets into our wildlife work. Tony is a hunting dog at heart, and his intelligence and discipline have allowed him to evolve into an exceptional hazing dog as well. Tony has the prey drive to put in a hard days work, and the sensibility to conduct himself appropriately in a variety of settings; industrial, municipal and more. Tony has put in almost 8 years of work, and is nearing retirement, but his love of the job keeps him active in the field, where he passes on his skills to the next generation of Wildlife Service Canines.

Silas is our new generation of Wildlife Service Dog. We have taken what we learned from our Labs and are applying it to a breed known for its intelligence, nosework, and workability to create a predator sweep, aversion and hazing machine. This sleek, personable pup is discerning, intelligent and driven. Silas is being trained specifically for industrial predator work. Whether it’s assisting in bear den sweeps, conducting aversion in high risk areas, or actively hazing predators. Silas is actively using his nose and already showing versatility and an affinity for the work, we are excited for his future in the field.
